Google canceled the “What people are suggesting” feature within its AI Overviews search tool, which previously displayed health advice summaries sourced from forums and social media. This move follows a wave of criticism regarding the reliability of user-generated content. Although the feature aimed to provide quick insights from people with similar experiences, the accuracy of information derived from online users raised safety concerns. The decision comes amid growing scrutiny of Google’s AI handling of medical data, where previous reports highlighted misleading or incomplete advice that ignored critical factors like age and medical history. Google stated that the cancellation is part of a broader effort to simplify the search experience rather than a direct result of accuracy failures. The feature was limited to a pilot in the US, and this removal is part of a wider review of AI Overviews, which serves about two billion users monthly, following previous errors in the system.
