Meta announced the acquisition of Moltbook, an experimental social network designed for artificial intelligence agents. The platform functions similarly to Reddit but is exclusively tailored for AI agents to interact, post, comment, and vote on content, with human developers acting only as external monitors.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Moltbook development team will join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs division. This unit is dedicated to advancing the company’s most sophisticated AI models. The financial value of the deal remains undisclosed.

A Meta spokesperson highlighted that integrating the Moltbook team will facilitate the deployment of AI agents for both individuals and businesses. The company aims to create innovative and secure digital experiences based on these intelligent agents.

This acquisition is part of a broader strategy by Meta to enhance its AI capabilities and compete with major players such as OpenAI and Google by recruiting startups and technical talent.

Moltbook was founded by Matt Schlicht, the CEO of Octane AI. Schlicht developed the platform in a single weekend using “vibe coding,” a process where AI models generate the necessary code through natural language commands.

Since its launch in late January, the platform has garnered significant interest in the tech sector. However, it has also raised concerns regarding the behavior of the agents, which have reportedly discussed forming AI-specific religions and posted content hostile to humans.
