Microsoft unveiled two new artificial intelligence features for its Teams meeting platform: automatic language detection and video summarization. The first feature utilizes AI to identify the language spoken by each participant in real time, removing the need for manual language selection during meetings. Once enabled, the application displays subtitles and real-time text in the language recognized by the system.

To activate this capability, meeting organizers must enable the “Interpreter” tool or the multi-language speech recognition feature. Previously, participants had to manually adjust language settings when a speaker switched languages, often resulting in inaccurate subtitles.

Microsoft is also developing a meeting summary feature capable of generating short video clips from recordings. The system processes recorded meetings to produce a video that highlights key moments with a voiceover explaining the main points.

This feature is expected to operate similarly to video summaries in photo applications like Google Photos and iCloud Photos, but adapted for professional meetings. The company has not yet specified if users will be able to disable these clips or if they will be generated automatically for every recording.

These additions are part of a series of updates for Teams, which also includes a system for managing bots within meetings and a new network strength indicator to help users assess internet stability during calls.

The automatic language detection and video summary features are set to launch for Windows and Mac versions of Teams in April.
