إنستغرام يختبر مزيّة مغادرة قوائم الأصدقاء المقربين
Instagram is currently developing a feature that grants users the ability to remove themselves from others’ “Close Friends” lists, marking a significant shift in the management of digital relationships.
Meta, the parent company of Instagram, confirmed that its teams are working on an option allowing members to exit these lists independently, rather than waiting for the list owner to remove them. This change addresses the asymmetry in the current system, where only the account holder possesses the authority to add or remove individuals from the exclusive circle.
The “Close Friends” feature is designed to allow users to share Stories and Reels with a select group of trusted individuals. It is primarily used for content that users wish to keep private from the general public. Currently, the list owner maintains full control over membership, leaving members with no choice but to stay if they wish to maintain visibility within that circle.
The new feature is still in its early stages of development. Meta has not yet announced any testing phases or timelines for its release. The company has not clarified whether list owners will receive notifications when a member leaves, nor have technical details been finalized.
This move aligns with the broader trend of social media platforms prioritizing user control and privacy. By giving users the power to curate their digital exposure, the feature aims to reduce awkwardness and discomfort associated with unwanted access to sensitive personal content. This shift is particularly significant for Arab users, who frequently utilize Close Friends lists to share family and social details, offering them greater independence in managing their privacy settings.
